I wonder if the folks who chose the UAE are rethinking their decision given the geopolitical upheaval that has taken place during the last six months.

Very interesting analysis.

I have to say that the weather and food is probably better in Italy than Britain. One wonders about the life-style choices that may have pushed people to consider a higher tax regime as well as stability.

Bryan - the Italy result is a costly-signal finding, which is what makes it so clean. A low rate costs a jurisdiction nothing to advertise and nothing to withdraw. €300,000 a year, fixed for fifteen years, in a G7 state with functioning courts, is expensive to offer and expensive to accept - and that expense is precisely why both sides believe it.

The same asymmetry runs through every fraud I look at: the claims that are cheapest to make carry the least information, no matter how much documentation arrives with them. Britain didn't lose on price. It lost the ability to make a promise anyone would price.
